Valerie Lea Armstrong Driskell
1978-2025
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Valerie Lea Armstrong Driskell, 46, on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Hospice House, in her hometown of Hutchinson, KS. Valerie was born on October 3, 1978, the daughter of Steven J. Armstrong and Diane D. (Nece) Mickelson.

On April 1, 2024, after a love and courtship spanning 32 years, she married Bryan Driskell in Hutchinson, KS.

Valerie attended both No Reno and Faris elementary schools, later graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1997.  Always a dedicated, hard worker, she approached her work as she did life and her Illness; with a smile and a great attitude. She was employed at Tyson Foods in South Hutchinson for over 6 years, working many different positions, even well into her illness.

She was a fiercely loyal friend and defender of the downtrodden, with a magnetic personality that made you want to be in her company. Her strength and unwavering commitment to spend as much time possible with all of us these past 5 years gives testament to her optimism and courage in the face of ovarian cancer and genuinely, in all she encountered.  She wished for all of you to know how much you are loved.  She wanted us to remind her numerous Doctors and their staff, she’s forever grateful for your tender care.

Val was preceded in death by her father, Steven Armstrong and a sister, Kelly A. Armstrong in 2008.

She is survived by her husband, Bryan Driskell; daughter, Micha Kelly Driskell; mother, Diane, stepfather, Bill Mickelson; sister, Sally (Jim Valentine) Armstrong; stepsisters, Kari (Corie) Silverberg, Jodie (Steve) Brawthen, Ann (Michael) Trudell: father-in-law, Mike Driskell; mother-in-law, Becky Chastain; and brother-in-law, Jeremy (Rene) Driskell.

In keeping with Val’s wishes: Graveside service and inurnment will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, May 4, 2025, at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4 th Ave, Hutchinson, KS., followed by an open house, Celebration of Life from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Dillon Nature Center, Taylors Cabin, 3002 E. 30th Ave., Hutchinson, KS.
