Thelma E. Lais
1934-2024
Thelma Elaine Lais, 90, of Hesston, Kansas, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2024 at the Schowalter Villa. She was born on November 6, 1934 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to Joseph Benjamin and Grace Helen (Plank) Brenneman.

Thelma moved to Kansas when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Hesston Academy.

Thelma was united in marriage to Larry Eugene Lais on June 4, 1954 in Hesston. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2013.

She was a member of the Hesston Mennonite Church and was very involved with funeral dinners, wedding receptions, and any cooking needed. She was well known for Thelma's potato salad.

Thelma worked as a bookkeeper for the Hesston Corporation early in her career. She later worked in tax preparation with John Diller for several winters. Thelma was a happy homemaker and did catering for small businesses and helped with meals for church events.

Thelma is survived by her children, Lynn (Jan) Lais of Grantsville, MD, Randall (Leigh Ann) Lais of Wichita, and Cynthia Lais of Kansas City, MO; seven grandchildren; and two brothers, Howard (Sharon) Brenneman and Joe (Trish) Brenneman, both of Hesston.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband.

Cremation is planned with memorial services to be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025 at the Schowalter Villa Chapel. Private inurnment will take place at Eastlawn Cemetery.
