1935-2025
Nancy Eva (Traywick) Thompson went home to the Lord on Thursday afternoon, March 13, 2025, leaving behind a loving family and many, many wonderful friends.
Nancy was born in El Dorado, Kansas on May 23, 1935 to Cardinal Dewey and Mary Arlene (Gray) Traywick. During her early years she lived in Hartner, Kansas; Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and Sharpe, Kansas. But she spent most of her life in Burlington, Kansas where she attended school and graduated from Burlington High School in 1953.
She attended Kansas State University from 1953 into early 1956. She was just one semester short of receiving her degree in education when fate had other plans. While attending K-State, Nancy met Judd Alexander Thompson who was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at nearby Fort Riley, Kansas.
Judd and Nancy fell in love and were married on August 11, 1956. They moved briefly to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but when the winters turned out to be more than they wanted to deal with, they returned home to Burlington where they spent the rest of their married years. They had two sons, Michael Lowry Thompson and William Camden Thompson whom they raised on a small farm on the outskirts of Burlington.
Nancy was a stay-at-home mom for a number of years, making a wonderful home for her family. In 1970 she decided to go to work for the Burlington School District as a para-professional where she helped teach kids until her retirement in 1996. She also kept the books for Judd’s business, Judd and Mike’s Phillips 66 station for the 9 years they owned the business.
Nancy and Judd loved to travel and took the boys on trips to Colorado a number of times. After the boys left home to pursue their careers, Judd and Nancy continued to travel as often as possible to many areas of the United States. They particularly loved to go to Las Vegas to “people watch”. They loved music and occasionally went to Nashville to take in the shows. They helped support the Music Box Theater in downtown Burlington for a number of years and enjoyed all the live music. Altogether, they lived a full, happy life in Burlington and enjoyed the company of many great friends.
Nancy continued to live at home in the countryside until her health became a concern in early 2024 at which time she moved to Shawnee, Kansas to Brookdale Assisted Living where she lived until her passing.
Nancy was preceded in death by her loving husband, Judd in 2014, and her son William in 2020. She is survived by a sister, Doris (Traywick) Culver of Benton, Kansas; her son Mike and daughter-in-law LeAnne (Logan) Thompson of Shawnee, Kansas; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren. She will be missed by family and friends alike.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington.
The family will meet with friends from 9:00 A.M. Saturday until service time at the funeral home
Memorial contributions may be made to the Floyd Lewis Foundation and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, PO Box 277, Burlington, KS 66839.
