Mildred J. “Minnie” McGonigle
1931-2025

Mildred Janet “Minnie” McGonigle, 93, died January 2, 2025, at Mennonite Friendship Communities.  She was born June 17, 1931, in rural Nickerson, to Fred and Laura (Stille) Beck.

Mildred graduated from Reno Community High School, currently Nickerson High School, and received her bachelor’s degree from McPherson College.  She started her teaching career by teaching in Larned for two years, before eventually teaching third grade at Morgan Elementary School, and retiring after 23 years of service.  Mildred was a strong advocate and supporter of her college alma mater, McPherson College, and enjoyed staying in touch with her college and teacher friends.  In addition, she enjoyed traveling and helping out on the family farm during harvest by driving the wheat truck and fixing and delivering meals in her motorhome to her family.  Mildred’s church, Salem Community Church, was extremely important to Mildred where she played the organ, taught Sunday school, and was former president of the church’s Salem Women Working Together organization.  Above all, Mildred cherished time spent with her family.

On July 11, 1979, she married Norval J. McGonigle, in Hutchinson.  He died December 20, 1999.

Mildred is survived by:  nephew, Phyll McGonigle (Janet); niece Cheryl White (Larry), all of Nickerson; great-nieces and great-nephews Layne White (Ruth), Julie MacArthur (Buell), Leigh McGonigle (Arlene), and Angie Kroeker (Jeremy); and great-great-nieces and nephews, Callie (Clayton), Sarah (Ryan), Joel (Maggie), Natalia, Addie, Alyson (Chase), Tyler, Ashley (Gino);  great-great-great-niece, Haley; and great-great-great-nephew, Emmett.

She was preceded in death by:  her parents; sister, Marian Beck McGonigle; and husband, Norval J. McGonigle.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Elliott Chapel, with Pastor George Hinton officiating.
