Micki D (McCurdy) Fryhover
1968-2024

Micki D. (McCurdy) Fryhover of Newton, KS passed away on December 26, 2024, following surgical complications at the age of 56. Micki was born in Newton, KS to Phylis (Tedder) Malcom and George McCurdy on November 18, 1968. She graduated from Newton High School in 1987, and went on to attend Emporia State University, then Wichita State University where she graduated with a degree in Secondary English Education. She taught Language Arts and Writing at the Middle School level, first in the Wichita School District, then Peabody-Burns, before finally landing at Chisholm Middle School in the Newton School District. She retired from the classroom in 2022, but her love of education did not waver. She then went on to work in Education Technology with Cengage-also fulfilling her dreams of being a work-from-home dog mom. On August 16, 1996, Micki married the love of her life Kerry Fryhover, and together they raised four children and several dogs.

Micki is survived by her loving husband Kerry Fryhover of Newton, children Alexander Fryhover of Newton, Abigail Fryhover of Newton, Keri Fryhover of Emporia, and Sarah “Sinny” Fryhover of Newton, siblings Angela (Curtis) Girk of Texas and James Duncan III of Texas, nieces/nephews Andrew (Jennifer) Hase of Texas, Krystina (Mark) Cox of Texas, Matthew (Kaitlyn) Hase of Texas, Charity Strubhar of Hesston, and Kimmie Duncan of Wichita, great-nieces/nephews Gabby, Haley, Avery, Kaydence, Kaylynn, Karson, Lexus, Xyler, Emberlynn, Kennedy, Carter, Madison, Andrew, Brady, and Cooper, mother-in-law Marie Fryhover of Newton, sister-in-laws Rhonda (Bill) Liggett of Newton, Vicky Telles of Newton, and Crystal Anderson of Topeka, brother in-law Ricky Fryhover of Newton and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends, as well as two loving dogs Lila and Peanut and one grand-cat Dorothea.

Micki was preceded in death by her parents Phylis (Mike) Malcom and George McCurdy, father-in-laws Harvey Anderson and Richard Fryhover, sister-in-law Tammie Schooler, several aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as three family dogs Shadow, Jack, and Goose.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Koerner Heights Church, 320 N Meridian Rd, Newton, KS 67114 on January 18, 2025, at 10:00 AM. Immediately following the service there will be a potluck-style reception.
