Marilyn Chism
1960-2025

Marilyn Chism, born on June 16, 1960, in Newton, Kansas, passed away on January 17, 2025, at the age of 64. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leland Ray Parker and Stella Parker; her beloved son, Jamie Easter, who passed away in 1981; and her cherished granddaughter, Jasmine Marie Chism, who passed away in 2000.

Marilyn grew up in Larned, Kansas, where she formed deep-rooted connections and built a lifetime of cherished memories. She is survived by her two children, Jessica Chism, 41, of Alabama, and Joseph Chism, 38, of Arizona. She is also survived by her three brothers: Kenneth Parker, Carl Parker (Julie) and Gary Parker (Ron Butler). In addition, Marilyn leaves behind two nephews, three nieces, seven great-nephews, and three great-nieces, all of whom she loved dearly.

Marilyn was known for her unwavering dedication to her work and community. She spent many years working at Sunflower Diversified Services in Great Bend, Kansas, where she was admired for her compassion and dedication. She also served as a supervisor in the kitchen at Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility, where her strong work ethic and leadership made a lasting impact.

In December 2015, Marilyn relocated to Alabama, where she found a welcoming spiritual home at Grace Temple Church. The church community embraced her with open arms, and she found joy, support, and fulfillment in their fellowship.

A devoted mother, friend, and mentor, Marilyn had a special gift for imparting wisdom and offering guidance when it was needed most. She welcomed many of her children’s friends into her heart and home, treating them as her own. Her kindness, generosity, and nurturing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

Marilyn found immense joy in watching her son play baseball, never missing a game and cheering him on with pride. She was also a passionate NASCAR fan, relishing the excitement and camaraderie that came with following the sport.

Her legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will continue to inspire all who knew her. Marilyn’s presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched.

A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 29th at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with David White presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 28th at the mortuary.  Memorials may be given to the Marilyn Chism memorial fund, in care of Beckwith Mortuary, P.O.
