1948-2025
Leah Jane (Weve) Akred was born on July 14, 1948, to James Levi Weve and Rosa Otilla (Nicklaus) Weve. She was the 7th of 8 children and died January 19, 2025.
Leah was the last person to graduate from Mount Hope High School in May of 1966. She lived most of her life in Mount Hope and was involved in her community. She helped open the Nursing Center in February of 1974, she volunteered as an E.M.T. for 14 years, and was Mount Hope’s first female fire fighter for 4 years before arthritis forced her to quit. Leah loved her small town, her “haunted” house, her wonderful neighbors, many friends, and family members. She loved working in her yard, tending her beautiful roses, and walking her best friend Abby, who originally was Robert’s dog.
Leah married Robert Andrew Akred on May 21st, 1983. They were married 39 years, and he preceded her in death on March 24th, 2023. Robert adopted Randy Dean, and Rebecca Suzanne in 1991, and was a stepfather to Jennifer Lynne. Completing the blended family was Jennifer Ayn Plymale Pitts.
Surviving Leah are: her children, Jennifer Ayn (Jason) Pitts, Jennifer (David) Gorges. Randy (Sarah) Akred and Rebecca (Kevin) Wilson; her grandchildren, Kyle and Cory Pitts, Kelsey Sampson, William and Jacob Callison, Paul Gorges, Andrew Akred and Lauren and Harrison Wilson; her great-grandchildren, Seth and Ian Crain, Autumn, Flynn and Hailey Pitts and Eleanor Sampson; many nieces, nephews, and a special young lady, Taylor Lundstedt of Hutchinson. Taylor is the granddaughter of Leah’s oldest friend Vicki Lynn (Crozier) Lundstedt.
The family will greet friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Wulf-Ast Mortuary in Mt. Hope. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2025 at Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Haven Priest Cemetery next to Robert, her favorite uncle Bill Nicklaus, and her favorite Aunt Dora Nicklaus, next to her folks.
Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (262 Danny Thomas Pl. Memphis, TN 38105), Mount Hope United Methodist Church (105 S. King St. Mt. Hope, KS 67108), and Hospice House of Reno County (1523 E. 20th Ave. Hutchinson, KS 67502).
