Larry Lee Bornholdt, 87, of Hutchinson, Kansas, passed away December 31, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. He was born January 21, 1937, in McPherson, the son of Dell J. and Naomi D. (Wilke) Bornholdt. Larry has resided in Hutchinson since 2009, formerly of Buhler, Kansas, from 2001 until 2009, and Lyons prior to 2001. He attended Lyons High School. Larry served in the United States Navy from November 12, 1954 until November 14, 1957, and the Navy Honor Guard while in Japan. He was the manager of Home Lumber in Lyons for 38 years, retiring in 2001. Larry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and the VFW all of Lyons. He also served on the Lyons Fire Department. Larry enjoyed woodworking, crafts and gardening. On August 3, 1963, Larry was united in marriage with Vickie Smith, in Little River, Kansas. Larry is survived by his wife, Vickie Bornholdt of Hutchinson, KS; daughter, Gretchen Davis and husband Brad of Hutchinson, KS; two grandchildren, Brooke Hill and husband Skylar of Hutchinson, KS, and Zachary Davis and wife Katelyn of Edmond, OK; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Davis. Larry is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jerry Bornholdt. Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Matt Stafford officiating. Burial will follow at the Lyons Municipal Cemetery, Lyons, with military honors by the United States Navy Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Friday, January 10, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Memorials may be given to the Lyons Fire Department in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
