1941-2025
Larry Jacob Griffitt, 83, of Sterling, Kansas, passed away January 3, 2025, at the Sterling Village, Sterling. He was born February 13, 1941, in Slater, Missouri, the son of Lawrence and Florence (Lemmons) Griffitt. Larry has resided in Sterling for the past three years, formerly of Haughton, Louisiana. He graduated from Little River High School, Little River, Kansas, with the class of 1959. Larry served in the United States Air Force from July 27, 1959 until July 26, 1963. He owned and operated Griff’s Auto Sports, Lyons and worked for Enron in Bushton as an operator for twenty-seven years. Larry enjoyed working on race cars, woodworking, hunting, and fishing. He was an artist and an excellent car painter. Larry worked on a pit crew of several teams in the NHRA, and with his help, his team driver won five Wally trophies. Larry is survived by his wife, Annie (O’Connell) Griffitt of Suffolk, VA; son, Brian Griffitt of Lyons, KS; three daughters, Shannon Jenson and husband Chris of Farmington, MN, Danya Seuell and husband Mike of Grand Junction, CO, and Roxy Jacobson of Mandon, ND; three sisters, Grace Lumpkins of Chase, KS, Deborah Konen and husband Mike of Little River, KS, and Pamela Keesling and husband Randy of Lyons, KS; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Griffitt; two stepsons, Jamie and William Baxter. Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 10, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Rick Stanley officiating. Burial will follow at the Bean Memorial Cemetery, Little River, with military honors by the United States Air Force Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Memorials may be given to the Sterling Village (for the activity fund) or the Rice County Council on Aging in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.
