1946-2025
Karen Louise Coy, 78, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family at McPherson Hospital.
Karen was born May 7, 1946, in Caney, KS, the daughter of L.W. “Wayne” and Frances (Stanley) Shearhart. She attended high school in Wayside, KS. On February 1, 1964, Karen was united in marriage to Robert L. Coy in Pratt, KS. They were married for 52 years prior to his passing on November 7, 2016.
Karen was a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant who devoted over 30 years of her life to the OB ward at McPherson Memorial Hospital. Throughout her career, she touched countless lives, helping to bring new life into the world. She considered these “her” babies, as each one was special to her, and formed lasting connections with the families she assisted.
A long-time member of the First Christian Church, Karen found great joy in serving others, particularly with the Rock Solid Kids program. Outside of her work and service, Karen loved spending time camping with family, fishing, enjoying the outdoors, and painting pieces through her passion for ceramics. She bowled for many years—whether winning or not, she enjoyed the game. She also belonged to the Red Hat Society.
