June Marie (Roberts) Metzen, 92 passed away Thursday, January 2, 2025 at the Comfort Care Homes West in Wichita, KS.
June was born to Vyrl and Ona (Ard) Roberts on June 15, 1932 in the farm house east of Chanute, Kansas. June was the oldest of 3 siblings. June attended Chanute High school and graduated in 1950. June was married to Ralph Metzen Jr. and blessed to have 4 children. Brian, Bruce, Cathy, and Carolyn. Besides raising the children June worked at the coverall factory, NuWa Industries in Chanute KS over several years until she retired. During retirement June was an avid walker, and June loved to walk with Carman and Louie her dogs she had as pets. June loved to read. June would read many books in a month and her Bible until Macular Degeneration did not allow her to read any longer. June was very feisty in her old age and would make you laugh when her octave level of her voice would increase with the excitement, she told you how things would be or going to be.
June was preceded in death by her parents, Vyrl and Ona (Ard) Roberts, sisters Nelda Sue (Roberts) McGee, Claris Eileen (Roberts) Angleton brother Norman Roberts and Grandson Ryan Messing.
June is survived by her sons Brian Metzen and companion Patty of Chanute KS, Bruce Metzen of Chanute KS, daughters Cathy (Butch) Wilmot of Chanute KS, and Carolyn (Terry) Messing of Wichita KS. Grand children, Rhonda (Metzen) Austin husband Jim, Miranda (Metzen) Kirkpatrick husband Lucas, Amy (Metzen) Honer husband Sean, Kevin Metzen wife Courtney, Jonathan Wilmot, and Christopher Messing wife Madison. Great Grandchildren, Christian Metzen, Anabelle, and Sophia Chenoweth, Gabriel and Kingston Kirkpatrick, Cade, Casten, and Caitlen Honer, Landon, and Emmett Metzen. Great, Great Grandchildren Braxton Messing, Adelina Espinosa, Waylon Hart, and Oliver Metzen.
June will be missed by many family members. The nurses at the care home just adored June. She was a spunky lady that entertained them many times with her humor and the words that came out of her mouth.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at Otterbein United Methodist Church at 10:00 am with burial immediately following at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home.
