1947-2025
Jenneth Kay “Jan” Karlin, 77, passed away April 4, 2025, at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on July 12, 1947, in Great Bend, to Ned and Mary (Schupman) Jacobs. On May 4, 1997, Jan married Bernard “Bernie” Karlin in Hoisington, Kansas.
A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Jan served as the County Treasurer for Barton County, after working in the county clerk’s office. She was very civically engaged, being a member of many clubs and organizations, including the Kansas Treasury Association, where she served as president for a year. Jan enjoyed dancing, taking care of her yard and flower garden, and in her younger years, fishing and going to the lake. Above all, she enjoyed time spent with family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Chad Hallmark of Lorraine, and Shawn DeHaan and wife Elisha of Texas; daughter, Jennifer Taylor of Kansas City, Missouri; stepson, William Karlin and wife Stephanie of Erie, Colorado; stepdaughter, Angela Silverthorn and husband Steve of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by son, John Taylor, Jr.; her parents; and sister, Joyce May.074/12/
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, with family receiving guests prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery North. Memorials have been designated to the Alzheimer’s Association, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
