Helen M. Pickerill
1926-2025

Helen M. Pickerill, 98, died January 3, 2025, at Homestead Assisted Living, Olathe. She was born March 27, 1926, in Salina, to Jim and Esther (Howard) Southworth.

Helen graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1944. She and her husband, Dean, owned and operated F.J. and Sons Block Company, South Hutchinson, for many years. Helen later became a baker for Mammel’s and bakery crew leader at Dillons. She participated in many bowling leagues through the years, and continued to bowl into her nineties. Helen enjoyed yardwork and spending time with her brothers and sisters. She was a very active member at South Hutchinson Christian Church.

On September 23, 1950, she married Dean F. Pickerill, in South Hutchinson. They shared over 56 years of marriage, prior to his death on November 29, 2006.

Helen is survived by: son, Robert (Yvonne) Pickerill of Gardner; grandchildren, Brad Pickerill, Doug Pickerill, Blake White, Chris White, Angela Graham, Tamara Young, Christina Turner; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband; son, Bill; daughter, Mary White; grandson, Brent Pickerill; siblings, Earl Southworth, Vivian Wroe, Birddella Hiebert, Mary “Katherine” Black, and Jimmie Southworth.

Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Memorial Park Cemetery, 5905 W. 4th, Hutchinson, with Pastor Dan Price officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Monarch Hospice, Shawnee Mission, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
