1943-2025
Elmer J. Drennan, age 81, of Kincaid, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at his home, with his loved ones at his side.
Elmer Junior Drennan was born March 28, 1943 to Elmer Marion Drennan and Helen Owens Drennan at home in rural Calico Rock, Arkansas. Elmer and his family moved to DeSoto Kansas when he was in the 7th grade. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1961. His dad passed away in 1948 and his mother in 2009. Elmer spent a lot of his childhood with his grandmother, Lizzie Drennan who passed away in 1963. A fateful trip to the drive-in resulted in Elmer meeting his wife to be, Elizabeth (Liz) Crawshaw. They were married on November 4th, 1967 in DeSoto. They made their first home together in rural Olathe before moving to Edgerton, Kansas where they lived for over twenty years. After retiring, Elmer and Liz moved to Arkansas before moving to Anderson County in 2005, making their home near Kincaid, Kansas.
Elmer enjoyed all sports with baseball being his favorite sport. His favorite teams were the Arkansas Razorbacks and St Louis Cardinals. If you needed to know something about baseball you just had to ask Elmer and he could tell you. He can still tell you the starting lineup of the 1953 World Series. He coached little league baseball for several years and most often had the winning team.
Elmer loved horses and shared that love with his family. They spent many years showing their horses throughout Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. He purchased his first horse shortly after we were married and before we had anywhere to keep it. He enjoyed grooming them and getting them ready for the show ring but did not want to go into the show ring himself. He loved watching his horses being shown and winning.
Elmer was a hard worker, working two jobs the majority of his adult life. In 2000, he retired from AT&T / Lucent Technology after working there for 32 years. He was a believer in saving a portion of each paycheck. He often received funny looks from the kids working at the drive thru windows when he would tell them to make sure they put some of the money they earned in the bank.
Growing up in Arkansas, Elmer and his Grandmother Drennan were active members of the Pleasant Valley Community Church. We attended this church again for the 5 years when we lived in the Calico Rock area after we retired. He was baptized during this time in Norfork Lake.
Elmer is survived by his wife of 54 years, Liz, of the home; two sons, James (Brad) Drennan and wife, Penny of Edgerton, and Mark Drennan and wife, Kasey of Parker, Kansas; three grandchildren, Holly Shinkle and husband, Zach, Bailey Drennan and Korbin Drennan; and two great grandchildren, Cody and Sarah Shinkle.
Elmer's family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, April 25, 2025 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 219 S. Oak Street, Garnett, Kansas 66032. A monument will be placed in the Drennan family plot at Staggs Cemetery in Calico Rock, Arkansas and his cremated remains will be spread across his Grandma Drennan's and his Dad's graves.
