DONALD “DONNIE” GEORGE FISCHER
1944-2025

Donald ”Donnie” George Fischer was born July 10, 1944 to Conrad and Hilda (Seiwert) Fischer at Sharon, Kansas.  A resident of Kingman most of his life.

He was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church, the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus and the Army National Guard.  He was a volunteer fireman for 28 years serving as Chief for 10 years. He worked for Augden Kostner John Deere for 25 years and owned LADS Han-D-Stop and Kingman True Value.  He was a groundskeeper and a 31 year school bus driver for USD 331.  He had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying to Lawrence to watch his favorite team, the Kansas Jayhawks. Most especially, he enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s school and sporting events.  Affectionately called Opa by the grandchildren that he adored and their friends; he touched the lives of hundreds of school bus children.

On May 31, 1969 he married Sally Theis in St. Leo, Kansas.  Together they had two children and enjoyed traveling, having visited 10 countries and all 50 states.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Herman, Elmer, Vince and Norman; and three sisters, Elvira (Sis) Rinke, Rosalma Wiley and Burnetta McCreath.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years; son Andy and his wife, Jill; daughter, Lynne Schreiner and her husband, Greg; six grandchildren, Kennedy George and her husband, Virgil, Augden Fischer, Colby, Alexandra, Collin and Ryan Schreiner; one great-granddaughter, Elaina, on the way; brother, Eugene Fischer and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Parish rosary will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church Sunday, April 13th at 5:00 pm.  Funeral Services at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monday, April 14th at 11:00 am.  Lunch follows in the school gymnasium. Burial Services at St. Leo, Kansas at a later date.
