Connie Alvarez
1935-2025

Connie’s life began on December 8, 1935, in Lost Springs. She was the daughter of Adolfo and Julia (Yturriago) Gonzales. Connie attended school in Lost Springs and was a lifelong resident. On January 12, 1954, she was united in marriage to Joe J. Alvarez, Sr. in Abilene. Connie was taught to cook and can fruits and vegetables by her mother. She was making tortillas by the time she was ten years old. Connie enjoyed making cream pies. Her pies were as pretty as a picture. While raising six children, she did ironing on the side. She would launder as needed and the men’s dress shirts looked like they had been pressed by a professional. Connie started working at Centre Grade School in the kitchen and moved later on to the high school where she worked a total of 27 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and doing word searches. Connie kept up with friends talking on the phone and enjoyed visiting the casino. Family was very important to Connie and she is survived by her children Joe (Barb) Alvarez, Jr. of Hillsboro, Ruby (Jeff) Kilmer of Herington, Ronald(Cheryl) Alvarez of El Dorado, Carmen (Linda) Alvarez of Chapman, Angela (Steve) Seifert of Marion, and Tony (Amanda) Alvarez of Hastings, NE; 29 grandchildren , 53 great grandchildren; siblings Margaret Roedinger of Herington, Nick Gonzolas of Herington, Mary Klenda of Hillsboro, Cicelia La Pante of Hillsboro and Kenny Gonzales of Sirico, IL. Connie passed away on Saturday January 4, 2025, at St. Luke’s Living Center in Marion. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings Carmen Gonzales, Virginia Reszcznski, Juanita “Janie” Heitfield and Delfina Nobels. Her family will gather with friends on Wednesday January 8, 2025, at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington from 5-7 p.m. with a Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday January 9, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington. She will be laid to rest in Lost Springs Cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to St. John’s Catholic Church, Herington.
