
1935-2025
On March 13, 2025, Carole Ann Shultz (Brown), of Hutchinson, “a child of the dirty thirties”, joined hands with Delbert and went home to the Lord.
Born May 16, 1935, at Grace Hospital, Hutchinson, to Leo William and Lillian Gladys (Gookins) Brown. The family moved from Grinnell, KS to Hutchinson in 1940. Carole attended Mitchell (District #2) Grade School and was a 1953 graduate of Reno Community High School (Nickerson High School), Nickerson.
She was lifetime member of Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, Rural Hutchinson, joining at 12 years of age. Carole was member of Home Builders Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She served on several committees and was a church greeter and usher.
On May 16, 1954, she married Delbert Lyle Shultz, at Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church. They shared nearly 63 years of marriage, prior to his death on March 16, 2017.
A stay-at-home mom, Carole and Delbert raised three children: Kay, Randy, and Lorna. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and cooking Sunday family dinners.
Carole volunteered to set up a formal office at Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church, where she was employed as secretary and pastor’s assistant for seven years. She also volunteered at the Kansas State Fair as a leader for 4-H, assisting in 4-H demonstrations, for many years.
Carole is survived by: her children, Kay Shultz, Randy (Lynn) Shultz, Lorna Wood, all of Hutchinson; bonus-daughter, Yvonne Pickerill of Gardner; five grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and sister in-laws, Sandy Shultz of Nickerson and Diane Parsons of Pratt.
She was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Delbert; great-grandson, Gabriel Marshall; and three siblings.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Mitchell Cemetery, 5512 N. Pennington, Hutchinson, with Pastor Amy Foster officiating. Family will greet friends from 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Elliott Mortuary. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mitchell Chapel United Methodist Church or Mitchell Cemetery, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
