Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Betty Jean Haigler, 84 of Humboldt, Kansas passed away at Arrowood Assisted Living on Friday, December 27, 2024.
Born on June 25, 1940 in Burlington, Kansas, Betty Jean was the beloved daughter of John and Ester (Wright) Harris. On August 28, 1959, Betty married Jerry Haigler in Chanute. The two enjoyed 49 years of marriage until Jerry’s passing in 2008. Through the years the two welcomed 2 sons, Chuck and Steve Haigler. Betty worked at the Ammunition Plant in Parsons, Kansas, NuWa Campers, Birdview Satellite, and as a secretary at her family oil company, SEK Oil and Gas. In Betty’s younger days she loved to spend time with her friends, attending the movies and other social events, and loved to travel, speaking fondly of her trip to Egypt, where she visited the pyramids and traveled down the Nile.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jerry Haigler, parents, John and Ester Harris, sister Mary Hutinett, and brother, Cleo Harris.
Betty’s legacy will live on with her sons, Chuck and wife Barbara Haigler of Humboldt, KS, Steve Haigler of Ft. Smith, AR, 3 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. The family will hold a graveside Celebration of Life Service for Betty on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Memorial Park Cemetery in Chanute. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions be made in Betty’s name to your local food pantry. Memorial can be left with Countryside Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 101 N. Highland, Chanute, KS. 66757.
