McPHERSON, Kan. — USD 418 is considering adjustments to the 2025/26 school calendar that would add 20 minutes to each school day and reduce the total number of school days by eight.
A committee of teachers, parents, administrators, and board members, appointed by the USD 418 Negotiations Team, was tasked with evaluating potential modifications to the school calendar. After a thorough review during the Fall and early Spring, the committee recommended this adjustment to maintain instructional quality while optimizing the school schedule.
On January 29, 2025, USD 418 teachers voted X% to Y% in favor of the proposed change. The Board of Education is gathering input from families through a survey as they evaluate the proposal and prepare for a vote on February 10, 2025.
Board President Dr. Lara Vanderhoof emphasized, “We recognize that this change impacts our entire community. That’s why we are committed to a thoughtful and informed decision-making process.”
If approved, the USD 418 Calendar Committee will work to finalize the school calendar for 2025/26 with the new adjustments included.
