McPHERSON, Kan. — Work has resumed on the Euclid Extension of the Elm Street Drainage project. Public Works Director Jeff Woodward gave the McPherson City Commission an update Tuesday, and said the contractor moved back in Monday and has uncovered the base, and as long as it’s dry enough the plan is to start grading work next Monday.
On the Lift Station 3 project there was one day of work last week, and on the Deerfield Estates South project some forming of sidewalks and ramps was done, and the sidewalks should be finished this week with only grading left.
The Commission agreed to pay an additional just over $4,300 to the property owner of a home at 1224 East Hulse for a sewer tap. The city had originally agreed to pay two thousand dollars, but the cost to repair the tap came in much higher than expected.
It also accepted a bid from Midway Motors for replacement of the Street Superintendent’s pickup at a cost of just over $58,000 including installation of a Tommy Gate on the truck. The superintendent’s current truck will go to the sign shop with their current truck to be sold on online auction.
Commissioners approved offering for sale bonds to cover both infrastructure improvements in the Veranda West Development and an Irrigation project at Turkey Creek Golf Course. This action followed a public hearing on assessments for street, sewer and stormwater work in the Veranda project and approval of the ordinance setting the assessments. The Veranda bond issuance of $260,000 was combined with the Turkey Creek irrigation project into a single bond issuance of just over $3.4 million.
Related to Turkey Creek, Commissioners also approved a $6,500 increase in the design contract to cover additional travel related expenses.
The Commission approved the purchase of a used scissor lift from United Rentals for the new Fire Station 2 on North Main, This would allow personnel to access a number of things including an air vac system on the high ceiling of the station which the city’s existing scissor lift at the Wastewater Department can’t reach.
The Commission approved the transfer of a police vehicle that was being replaced to the Fire Department for use as a utility vehicle and for travel to out-of-town training. Also, for the Police Department it approved a payment to Travelers Insurance for towing and storage of a patrol vehicle damaged in a June 2024 accident while it was being repaired.
