McPHERSON, Kan. — Utility relocation work continues in connection with the Euclid Extension of the Elm Street Drainage project. McPherson City Commissioners were told Tuesday work in the past week focused on base, pavement and sidewalk on the south side of Euclid west of Main, and relocation of AT&T lines in the alley south of Euclid and a water line at the intersection of Euclid and Maple, where the south leg of that intersection remains closed.
On the two other active projects, the contractor on the Lift Station 3 project tied the new force main into the existing force main last week with grading and work on the base for the control shack starting, and on the Deerfield Estates South project final grading work continued along with sidewalks on adjacent properties.
Members of the newly combined Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals were appointed. Three of the board’s seven members, Chuck Schmidt, James Melland, and Roger Wofford, hold terms that will run through April 30 to allow for staggering of three-year terms. Tiffani Floyd and Gloria Schroeder were appointed to terms that will run through April 30, 2026 and Brennon Randa and Michael Yates will serve to April 30, 2028.
Commission approved a bid from Ard Mowing for purchase and installation of an irrigation system for the new Fire Station 2. This system will cover roughly the grassy areas on the south and east side of the new station on North Main.
The Commission approved payment of the annual start-up costs for the McPherson Water Park, which will be just under $3,000 more than for 2024, and gave approval for purchase of various chemicals by the Park Department and Turkey Creek Golf Course. Materials will be purchased as needed from four different vendors
The Commission accepted a proposal from IdeaTek for a VOIP phone system which will provide more flexibility and features than now available from a system it currently shares with McPherson County. IdeaTek had the lowest quote of three received
Multiple personnel matters were dealt with, including the hiring of two operators in training for the Street Department and seasonal employees for the Park Department, Cemetery, and Turkey Creek Golf Course. Commissioners conducted two closed-door sessions totaling 35 minutes to discuss matters involving non-elected personnel, with no action taken from either one
The Commission also approved the annual requests connected with All Schools Day including specific approvals for a yoga event and the FYR Mac-Town Fun Run.
