McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee is now selecting recipients for the Agriculture Future of America (AFA) Scholarship, based on the students’ leadership roles in organizations, community service, internship and work experiences, as well as financial need.
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be high school seniors or undergraduates residing in McPherson County or attending a McPherson County high school. The applicants should have plans to pursue a career in the food and agriculture industry and obtain a four-year degree.
Candidates are also evaluated on three personal vision statements:
- Explain your educational and ideal career path.
- What is one challenge you have had in the last year? How have you persevered through it?
- How would you describe the personal brand you hope to have in the food and agriculture community?
Chosen scholars are required to commit to attending the AFA Leaders Conference in the fall semester of the awarded scholarship year. They must also maintain full-time class status and a good academic standing with their institution to receive the academic scholarship.
The McPherson Chamber Agriculture Committee has been raising funds for the local AFA Scholarship with substantial effort over the years.
The scholarship was established in 2001, and to date, the McPherson Chamber has granted 34 comprehensive academic and leader development scholarships, along with 12 leadership conference scholarships.
The full scholarship ($4,450) encompasses a $3,200 academic scholarship and $1,250 for the AFA Leaders Conference tuition.
The application is accessible at www.agfuture.org/scholarships, and the deadline for submission is March 6, 2024.
