LARNED, Kan. — The Welcome Inn Senior Center in Larned is in desperate need of donations in order to keep their doors open.

Due to a 50 percent cutback in federal funding for the center, they are in danger of closing. This would impact around 75 senior citizens who get daily meals from the center’s Friendship Meals program, which in some cases represents their only source of food for the week.

Participants are asked to pay $3.50 per meal received, which may not sound like much but for some even that is difficult. One way you can help is by sponsoring a meal, $35 for ten meals or $80.50 to sponsor meals for one participant for a month.

Donations of any size will be greatly appreciated, While they do get funding from other sources, those sources are also facing cuts too. You can make donations by dropping them off at or mailing them to Welcome Inn Senior Center at 113 West 4th in Larned, 67550. If you want to know more, call 620-285-3504.
