Road conditions are rapidly deteriorating across central Kansas. The Kansas Department of Transportation as of 12:30 PM reported roads across much of western and central Kansas and in the area from Yates Center to Fort Scott of southeast Kansas as being at least icy in spots, as is US 169 from the US 59 south junction south of Garnett to Chanute.
Law Enforcement personnel have worked multiple accidents this morning as freezing drizzle expanded in coverage. The number of accidents caused the closure of a three mile section of I-70 near the K-156 interchange northeast of Ellsworth or about 25 miles west of Salina. A segment of K-27 between Johnson City and Syracuse in southwest Kansas was also closed.
The number of accidents has led to the activation of Emergency Accident Reporting Plans in Hutchinson, McPherson and Wichita.
