The Hutchinson High bowling teams have gotten their seasons started this month, and they have started brightly with a triangular sweep on Tuesday at The Alley.
The boys won the Baker scoring event, beating Andover and Cheney. The Salthawks finished with a 2,297 score. Jacob Bofink won the triangular with a 685.
The girls won with a 1,760 score. Naddy Wellington finished third overall, leading the Salthawks with a 649.
Boys wrestling – The Salthawks placed seventh at the rugged Dodge City Invitational last week. Four Salthawks placed in the top six in their respective weight classes, including Kade Smith (165 pounds) and Cruz Cannon (113) finishing third, Max Harris (157) finishing fifth, and Jackson Anderson (176) finishing sixth.
The Salthawks compete at the Newton Tournament of Champions Friday and Saturday.
Girls wrestling – The girls wrapped up the Newton TOC on Thursday, as two Salthawks had top-six finishes, including Sophia Zwickl (125) finishing fourth, and Aadia Brown (100) coming in sixth.
Girls basketball – The Salthawks had a sterling defensive effort, clamping down on Valley Center in a 38-22 win Tuesday at the Salthawk Activity Center.
It was the fourth time this season Hutchinson has held its opponent to fewer than 35 points.
Kolbie Craft led Hutchinson with 11 points, while Grace Posch had eight points.
Boys basketball – The Salthawks won their fourth straight game on Tuesday, and their 66-40 win over Valley Center vaulted them to second place in the Class 5A West standings.
Taishaun Govain led the Salthawks with 22 points, while Terrell King added 20.
Hutchinson has held four opponents this season to fewer than 44 points.
