In partnership with The Civic Trust® of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, we are proud to bring the National Civics Bee® to Hutchinson/Reno County for the second year. This competition invites middle schoolers in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades from public, private, charter, and home schools to participate in a first-round civics essay competition. Distinguished community leaders from across the country will serve as volunteer Essay Judges to review the essay submissions, and the top 20 students will be selected to advance to a local in-person live event. The local competition will feature two rounds of civics questions followed by a Q&A round, providing a platform for students to showcase their civics knowledge.

Local winners will receive a minimum of $500 cash for first place and an invitation to compete in the National Civics Bee® Kansas State Finals, where they will have the opportunity to win additional cash prizes. The first-place winner of the State Finals will earn a trip to Washington, D.C. to compete in the National Championship in the Fall of 2025. Prizes at the National Championship include a grand prize of a $100,000 in a 529 plan for first place, $25,000 for second place, and $15,000 for third place.

On behalf of the Hutchinson/ Reno County Chamber of Commerce, we’d like to invite you to join us as a volunteer National Civics Bee® Essay Judge. Your expertise and commitment to fostering civic knowledge and engagement make you an ideal candidate to help evaluate the thoughtful and creative essays submitted by the next generation of leaders in our country.

Are you interested in volunteering as an essay judge to read and score student essays online? Essay Judging will take place between February 6-12, 2025, and we are requesting a flexible commitment of approximately 3 hours to read and score essays online. Please see the 2025 Essay Guide to learn more or click Here for the Chamber website. If interested, you can register here. Contact Seth Farley if you have any questions.

Thank you for your consideration. Your support is invaluable in fostering a generation of informed and engaged citizens.
