McPHERSON, Kan. (CCCTigers.com) – The 2024 edition of Tiger Soccer begins with excitement for Coach Josh Macharia, getting through camp healthy. Last season, the Tigers came off a 1-14-1 season that saw a handful of key players injured, and a few close games lost late due to depth. Those issues are in the past as they return nearly the entire roster including a solid recruiting class.
“We’re healthy. We’re excited to get going. I do think this team has a chance to play post season soccer,” exclaimed Coach Macharia who is in his 3rd season leading the Tigers, and 19th season overall.
The Tigers return 8 seniors, led by Academic All-American, Amaleigh Mattison, who leads the middle, and rarely ever left the field a year ago. The Tigers also return Jr Defender Bailey Smith, and Forward Celina Vanhaezebrouck, who should see valuable time on the pitch. Coach is also excited for the return of Amaya Chaffee, and Raquel John being able to play a full season.
“We have some key additions who are battling for playing time, and look forward to their development as the season progresses. You know, I’m just happy to be coaching this bunch. I’ve got my team here, and they are ready to play our style.” If you hang around Coach Macharia long enough, you’ll hear him say often, “I Love my Team!”
The Tigers open the season today at Randall University in Moore, Oklahoma. Kickoff is at 3pm. They will have their home opener at 5:30pm versus Bethany College on Saturday.
