McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — Despite a strong second-half effort, the McPherson women’s soccer team fell to the Baker Wildcats in the 2024 season opener by a score of 7-2 Wednesday evening (Aug. 21) at McPherson Stadium home of Paul Family Field.
It was a grand return to action for 2022 KCAC all-conference performer Caitlin Buendia, who scored a pair of goals in the second half in her return to action from an injury-filled 2023 campaign. She was assisted by Gracie Speltz and Courtney Wickham respectively on those two goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Scheuerman got the nod as the game’s starting goalkeeper and played the full 90 minutes. She recorded five total saves against the Wildcats, including a pair of diving saves in the first half.
Baker was led on the offensive end by Emma Schieber and Darcy Cato, who both recorded hat tricks. Freshman goalkeeper Avery Young played the first half of the contest, but was removed in the second half in favor of sophomore Sophia Holloway.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Aug. 27 when they travel to Kansas City to take on Spurgeon College.
