HILLSBORO, Kan. (TaborBluejays.com) – Tabor secured an impressive 4-nil victory over Sterling on Wednesday, with three different Bluejays scoring goals to lead the team to another conference victory. Following that win, Tabor would look to their Saturday matchup against Ottawa University, who ended last year’s post-season run in a penalty kick shootout with Ottawa coming out on top in double overtime. Looking to settle the score, the Bluejays hosted the Braves at 1 p.m. on their home turf right here in Hillsboro.

It didn’t take long for the Bluejays to give themselves the upper hand, as Beatriz Rodrigues scored a beautiful goal in the first two minutes of the match, assisted by Raegan King. The Bluejays kept control for a little while longer, with Porsha Zweifel and Josie Simpson attempting to extend the lead for Tabor not long after. Ottawa retaliated with two shots at the goal, both saved by Neve Mulrooney. The action slowed for the next 20 minutes, and it wasn’t until the 28-minute mark that Ottawa’s Maria Savvides scored the first goal for the Braves, tying the match at 1-1. The Braves took control for the rest of the first half, taking four more shots at scoring and giving Mulrooney three more saves to add to the record book. As the time expired, the teams were deadlocked, and both were eager to take the lead during the last 45 minutes of the contest.

The second half proved to be unsuccessful for both the Bluejays and the Braves, and would later result in no goals scored for either team. Mulrooney was able to record two more saves during the match, which brought her total to seven on the afternoon and her weekly total to a staggering twelve. Cassidy BoyerApril Ochoa, and Haven Deckinger all attempted to put the Bluejays ahead, but none could find the back of the net against a strong Ottawa defense. Following a relatively uneventful second half, the game wrapped up with an even 1-1 score, resulting in a draw between the two KCAC teams.

This Wednesday, Tabor will be back on their home turf once again as they host the Threshers of Bethel College at 5 p.m. The Bluejays will enter the contest with a conference record of 2-3-2 while the Threshers will enter with a record of 2-4-1. Tabor has only recorded one loss to Bethel in the past 11 years, and they will aim to improve that number as well as their conference standings on Wednesday.
