Women’s Basketball Swedes Surpass Sterling in Rematch Victory

LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes hosted the Sterling College Warriors, Wednesday, January 15th in Hahn Gymnasium, sponsored by the Crown Rye. The Swedes fell to Sterling in their first matchup but would go on to hold the highest scoring team in the KCAC under 50 points to take the victory over the Warriors, 60-49.

The 1st quarter started with a bang after the Swedes scored 24 points and holding Sterling to 15. From there, Bethany went on to dominate the glass both on offense and defense. The Swedes outrebounded the Warriors, 44-27, with 18 of those rebounds being offensive rebounds with Emily Green leading the effort with 6 followed by Janae Black-Harmon with 5. The other major difference in this game was the 3-point shooting; Bethany held Sterling to only 2 three-pointers out of 17, both of which occurred in the first quarter. The Swedes led throughout the game and also forced 19 turnovers which led to 19 points for Bethany. All around, Bethany gave an exciting performance throughout which now puts the Swedes in 5th place in conference standings with a 7-4 record tying with Tabor College and Evangel University.

Notable stats include, Jaden Newfarmer with her 4th double-double in a row, 17 points and 11 rebounds along with 4 steals, Janae Black-Harmon with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, and Emily Green with 4 assists, 8 points, and 7 rebounds.
