Women’s Basketball Swedes Clinch Playoff Spot with Win over Coyotes

LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes hosted the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes, Wednesday, February 19th in their weekday rivalry matchup in Hahn Gymnasium.

The Swedes came out of the gate struggling to make shots, shooting only 26% from the field in the first quarter against the Coyotes. But Bethany managed to keep Kansas Wesleyan within reach with the score at the end of the first quarter 16-18. The Swedes picked it up in the second quarter and forced the Coyotes to take contested shots which lead to a tied game at half. The score going into the break was 31-31. Both teams came out of halftime shooing at 53% in the third quarter making it the highest scoring quarter of the night with the Swedes earning an additional 20 points and Coyotes scoring 22 points. As the fourth and final quarter rolled around, the score was 51-53 with Bethany down by two. However, the fourth quarter would belong to the Swedes who outscored the Coyotes 24-15. Final score, Bethany 75, Kansas Wesleyan 68. With this win, the Swedes earn a spot in the playoffs with Friends University still to come.

Notable stats include, Jaden Newfarmer with 6 rebounds, 16 points, and 4 assists, Janae Black-Harmon with a double-double, 14 rebounds, 12 points, and 3 blocks, and Kylie Dunn with 21 points and 2 steals.
