WINFIELD, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs snapped a seven-game losing skid with a 73-62 win over the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in Winfield, Kan.
The Bulldogs scored 32 points in the paint, and shot 37.9 percent from the field. Matisyn Moses paced the Bulldogs with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Joze’ Baker added 13 points. Chloe Clevenger pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds, the most by a Bulldog since 2021-22.
Southwestern jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in the first quarter behind back-to-back threes by Macey Pond. The Builders stretched that lead to 13-4 before a 9-0 burst by the Bulldogs, capped off by a triple by Summer Kirkman, leveled the score with just over a minute to play in the opening quarter.
From there, the Bulldogs exploded offensively in the second frame, outscoring the Builders 22-8. MC shot 52.9 percent from the field in the second ten minutes, and were 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.
The Bulldogs ballooned their lead to as many as 22 in the third quarter, before taking a 56-37 advantage into the final period.
Southwestern opened the fourth quarter with a 15-3 burst to trim the lead to 62-52, but from there the closest the game would come was 67-59 with less than a minute to play.
Pond led the Builders with 17 points and three steals, while Hunter Garcia added 10 points. MC held the Builders to just 25.7 percent from the field.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday (Feb. 24) for Senior Night against Tabor College at the Sport Center. Tipoff is slated for 5:00 p.m.
