LINDSBORG, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes had their home-opener this past weekend hosting the Waldorf University Warriors in what was supposed to be a four-game series. Due to weather, the only games that were able to be played were on Friday that both ended with the Swedes coming out victorious.
Game 1
The Warriors scored early on in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. In the third inning, the Swedes settled in and took off scoring all 10 of their runs in the third and fourth innings. The Swedes would hold strong and take this one 10-2.
Emmanuel Alicea went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI. Connor Crayton would also go 3-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Fabian Dumey went 2-2 with one RBI and also drew a walk. Isreal Brenes went 2-3 while scoring two runs.
Christopher Echavarria would go six complete innings allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out 8. Jose Fajardo would finish off the Warriors with one inning pitched allowing one hit while striking out two.
Game 2
Game 2 lacked luster compared to the first one. The Swedes would push one across the plate by way of a Josue Figuera single scoring Rafael Perez from second base.
Josue Figuera managed to go 1-1 with the game-winning RBI after laying down a sacrifice bunt earlier in the contest. Rafael Perez hit a double to get on-base before scoring the lone run of the game.
Joseph Guzman and Willian Figueroa-Soto combined for the first shutout of the season. Guzman went five complete innings allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out five. Figueroa-Soto capped off the shutout with two-inning save allowing one hit and one walk while striking out four.
