McPHERSON, Kan. (CCCTigers.com) – The Women’s Volleyball team battled Langston University at home on Tuesday night, in a game where the score did not tell the whole story. Langston came out victorious 3 sets to 1 over the tigers, but the Tigers led in virtually every statistical category, which unfortunately included errors, and that’s what told the story on the scoreboard.
Set 1 saw a back and forth where the lead changed 13 times and had 13 ties. The Tigers had their chance with a 3 point lead late, and a match point 24-22 lead, but was unable to hang on as they fell 26-28. Set 2 was the Tigers team we’ve been expecting this season, as they led throughout in a 25-20 win. Set 3 saw the Tigers struggle early falling behind 19-7, and after a Tiger timeout, they scored 10 straight points to bring the score to 19-17. A time out by Langston settled them down and they came up victorious 25-19. Langston led throughout the 4th set, but with a 6 straight point run by the tigers made it 20-19, but Langston scored the last 6 points to win the full match 3 sets to 1.
Zoe Smith had an outstanding night leading the Tigers with 28 assists, 12 digs, and 2 aces, while Sydnie Jones had one of her best nights as a Tiger leading with 17 kills. The Tigers led as a team in Kills, Assists, Digs, and Aces on the night. The Tigers fell to 0-9 on the season and 0-3 in SAC play, while Langston won their 1st SAC match of the season raising their record to 2-9 overall and a 1-2 record in SAC play.
The Tigers (0-9) return to play on Friday again SAC foe Mid-American Christian (4-4). Game is set to start at 7pm at the Gaulke Activity Center in Oklahoma City. Fans can tune in at the SAC Network.
