LINDSBORG, KAN. (BethanySwedes.com) – Today, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that the Bethany College Women’s Volleyball Team earned the 2024 AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT.

To earn this honor, a volleyball program must maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale spotlighting each programs classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year. This year, the Swedes maintained a 3.60 average.

The Swedes were one of five teams recognized in the KCAC and one of six teams overall representing the NAIA for the Collegiate Women’s category. This marks the second year in a row and the 12th time overall Bethany has won the award with the first coming in 2000.

“We are very proud of the continued academic success of Swedes Volleyball,” said Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno. “Swedes Volleyball consistently prioritizes the student in student-athlete, and it shows with the endless effort, work ethic, and success of our volleyball student-athletes in the classroom. We are incredibly proud of them, and thankful for the way in which they represent Bethany and the Department of Athletics.”

The AVCA’s mission is to advance the sport of volleyball with association coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development. The membership includes more than 9,500 collegiate, professional, high school, club, and youth volleyball coaches—primarily in the United States. The AVCA represents women’s volleyball, men’s volleyball, and beach volleyball coaches, and works to increase exposure and recognition for the sport of volleyball.
