McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — It was a thriller inside the Sport Center Wednesday (Oct. 9), as the McPherson College Bulldogs came away with a 3-1 win over Bethel College.
MC (14-5, 5-1 KCAC) seemed to be on a path to cruise to victory after taking the first set 25-16, thanks to a .257 attacking percentage, then opening up a commanding 21-11 lead in the second frame.
However, the Threshers would not go quietly, scoring five of the next six points to make things interesting. The Bulldogs would finish off the set 25-21.
The Threshers grabbed the momentum early in the third game with three straight points to open the set, then led by as many as nine before winning the set 25-18.
But the Bulldogs flexed their muscles in the fourth set, showing why they’re receiving national recognition to secure the 25-23 set win and hand the Threshers their first KCAC loss of the season.
MC finished with 52 kills, led by Brooke McHale with 13. Luisina Sandrone and Hadley Waldren each added nine kills. Raegan Murphy and Katelyn Brogan were dead-even with 18 assists to facilitate the Bulldogs offensively.
On the defensive side, Enya Fierens had eight block assists, while a three-headed monster of Sandrone, Brogan, and Celestina Retumban anchored the back row with 12, 11, and 13 digs respectively.
The Bulldogs have a tough weekend ahead of them, playing a pair of teams who are receiving votes in the latest NAIA ratings at the Missouri Baptist University Classic in St. Louis. Play will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 11).
