Unruh’s Last-Second Shot Too Late as Swedes Fall to Coyotes 57-56

LINDSBORG, Kan. – (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swede Women’s Basketball hosted the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in a thriller on Wednesday, February 7th.

The Swedes jumped out to a 7-0 lead to open the contest led by Lauren Gleason. Bethany would continue to apply pressure to maintain an 18-12 led.

In the second period, the Coyotes would win the quarter, but still find themselves down at the break 29-27.

The second half began with a 10-0 in favor of Kansas Wesleyan, but CJ Rignell would end the streak with a dagger from downtown sparking a 7-0 run for Bethany. Both teams would continue to trade buckets until the end of the third quarter where the Coyotes would find themselves up 43-41.

The final period would start slow as the Swedes would score the only points in the first 2 and a half minutes to even up the score at 43. After trading a couple of baskets, Kansas Wesleyan would nab the lead with a three-pointer that would ultimately give them the lead for good. The Swedes would continue to fight until the very end as Kisa Unruh‘s three-point attempt would miss after the final buzzer resulting in the Swedes falling to the Coyotes 57-56.

Kisa Unruh would lead the Swedes in scoring with 12 points followed closely by Lauren Gleason with 11. Gleason would tie Kaleigh O’Brien for the team lead in boards with 7 apiece. O’Brien would also reject 2 shots on the evening. Emily Green would play maestro dishing out 4 assists.

9 of 10 Swedes would put up points in this one showing it takes a team to compete in the KCAC.

The Swedes have a date with the McPherson College Bulldogs this Saturday, February 10th. The last time these two met, the Swedes would take care of business 88-64. Tipoff is set for 5:00 PM in McPherson, Kansas.
