HILLSBORO, Kan. (TaborBluejays.com) –  Following an impressive 5-0 victory over McPherson to kick off conference play on Wednesday, the Lady Bluejays aimed to improve their conference record to 2-0 against the Falcons of Friends University on Saturday. However, inclement weather in Hillsboro forced the match to be postponed until Sunday. Tabor entered the match with an overall record of 2-2-2, while Friends arrived with a 3-2 overall record and had not yet played a conference game.

It wasn’t long before the Bluejays took control on offense, with Taylor Nye and Raegan King taking shots at the goal within the first 10 minutes of the half. The Falcons retaliated with a shot, but failed to find the net as Neve Mulrooney recorded her first save of the game. It was a back-and-forth battle across the turf as both teams played their fair share of offense and defense, with neither producing many results. At the 32-minute mark, King went in for another shot but missed just high. Nearing the end of the first half, the Falcons took another shot at the goal, but it hit the post and left them scoreless. King took one last shot before halftime, but failed to convert as the Falcons recorded another save.

Friends came into the second half determined to put themselves on the scoreboard, taking three shots early on but coming up unsuccessful. It wasn’t until much later into the half that any more offensive action would occur, and with about 20 minutes left in the match, Anahi Ibarra-Arevalo of Friends netted the Falcons’ first and only goal. Beatriz Rodrigues and Taylor Nye attempted to even the score, but neither could find the back of the net. Mulrooney tallied 4 total saves throughout the match and held the Falcons to a single goal.

This Saturday, the Lady Bluejays aim to continue their conference campaign with a matchup against Southwestern College, set to kick off at 5:30 p.m. Last season’s matchup between Tabor and Southwestern resulted in a narrow Bluejay win, and Tabor will look to continue that momentum later this weekend. The Builders will enter the match with an overall record of 0-4, seeking their first victory of the season and competing in their first conference matchup.
