HILLSBORO, Kan. (TaborBlueJays.com) – Jeff Brewer has been named as the next Director of Athletics at Tabor College.

Brewer has served as the Head Softball Coach for the Bluejays since August of 2019, and has also served as an Assistant Athletic Director.

This past season, Brewer led the Lady Bluejays to the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) tournament as the No. 8 seed where they picked up a trio of upsets, knocking off Kansas Wesleyan, Saint Mary, and Ottawa in the elimination bracket to finish third. This year marked the best season for the program since the 2018 season.

Under Coach Brewer’s leadership, several players have earned KCAC and NAIA awards. Most recently, Darcy Gillen was named as an NAIA 3rd team All-American, as well as being named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NAIA Region IV 2nd team and earning a unanimous All-KCAC 1st team selection. In addition to Gillen, 11 other Bluejays earned All-KCAC or KCAC Gold Glove selections.

Bluejay softball also excelled in the classroom under Brewer this past season, with 16 athletes earning KCAC Scholar-Athlete honors at the 2024 KCAC Softball Championship Banquet, and three athletes earning NAIA Scholar-Athlete distinctions.

Coach Brewer came to Tabor after spending five seasons as an Assistant Softball Coach at his alma mater, Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., where he served as the hitting instructor, defensive coach, lead recruiter, and camp instructor. Brewer was an integral part of the Scots’ four winning seasons, including an impressive record of 33-14 in his final season in Batesville.

Prior to his venture over into the softball world, Brewer served as the Head Baseball Coach at Pratt Community College in Pratt, Kan. from 1998-2007. While serving as the Beavers’ skipper, Brewer surpassed the 300-win mark, posting a record of 314-228 in 10 seasons at the helm.

In addition to his head coaching stops, Brewer also made stops as an assistant baseball coach at Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., Lyon College, and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Mo.

Brewer ventured into the professional baseball world, serving as a Baseball Organization Associate Scout for the Cleveland Indians (now the Cleveland Guardians) and the Florida Marlins (now the Miami Marlins), both of Major League Baseball (MLB).

A native of Bentonville, Ark., Brewer graduated from Arkansas College (now Lyon College) with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and later earned his master’s degree in athletic administration from Northwest Missouri State University.

Coach Brewer and his wife Jane have been married for 19 years and have two daughters, Keeley, who will be a sophomore at Tabor, and Anslee, a recent graduate of Hillsboro High School.

“I am Thankful and Excited for this opportunity to move forward with my career at Tabor College”, said Brewer. “Tabor does a great job empowering students to grow spiritually, mentally, emotionally and athletically and I am looking forward to partnering with a tremendous coaching staff and continue growing a winning culture.”

“I would like to Thank President Janzen for this opportunity. It is truly a blessing to be part of the Tabor Family.”

Dr. David Janzen, Tabor College President, remarked, “Jeff’s educational, coaching and business background, combined with his work ethic, passion and mission fit for Tabor prepare him well for this important leadership role. We are so excited to see how God will use him to advance our athletic programs.”

Dr. Janzen also expressed his gratitude for the current athletic staff at Tabor, “I appreciate our long-term head coaches who were instrumental in advising me through this search for our next Director of Athletics”

Coach Brewer will continue to serve as the Head Softball Coach in addition to his new responsibilities as Director of Athletics.
