SALINA, Kan. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes made the short trip north to Salina, Kan. to take on the Kansas Wesleyan University Coyotes in the first of two match-ups this season. The Swedes would get on the board first, but it was all Coyotes from there on out as they would run away with this one 101-77.
Emmanuel Akpan would lead the way for the Swedes, battling it out with Kansas Wesleyan’s best player, to tie for a game-high 26 points. Akpan would also lead the Swedes in rebounds (5), assists (3), and steals (4). Maurice Cudjo II would tack on 17 points and tie Akpan with four steals on the night. Devin Spencer would score double-digits for the second game in a row with 14 points, while Kenny Haynes would boost his streak of double-digit scoring to five with 12 points including a halftime buzzer-beater.
As a team, Bethany would shoot a respectable 45.3% from the floor, but Kansas Wesleyan would not, could not miss shooting 66.1%. Paint defense was not very evident for both teams as the Swedes would score 42 in paint while the Coyotes would drop 60.

The Swedes have yet another tough match-up, this time against the University of Saint Mary Spires. The Spires are 14-5 (11-2) on the season and are coming off a two-point loss to the Ottawa University Braves. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM in Leavenworth, Kan. at the Ryan Sports Center following the completion of the women’s contest.
