Sterling Loses to No. 1 in Conference Spires

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – The Warriors traveled to Saint Mary where they lost 57-79 to the Spires who are currently undefeated in KCAC play. 

Sterling jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead before going cold, shooting 1-10 from beyond the arc and only 35% from the field. 

The Spires, on the other hand, were hot from the floor going 5-12 in the first half from three-point land and shooting over 56% from the field to take a 42-24 lead into halftime. 

Struggles continued for the Warriors in the second half as they went 1-9 from the three-point line. 

Mooch Austin led Sterling in scoring with 14, followed by Gavin Dobbins with seven off the bench. Julian Smith led the Warriors in rebounds and blocks with five and two respectively. While Damond Daniels led the way for steals and assists with four and three respectively. 

Sterling (9-5, 4-4) will be in action again, Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m. against Friends University (9-4, 5-2).
