STERLING, Kan. (SCWarriors.com) – On top of a historic post-season run, the Sterling College Lady Warriors also celebrated Korynn Clason setting the single season scoring record with 699 points. This surpasses the previous record set by Kristina Barrow in the 2001-02 season where she scored 690 points.

“It is always neat to see a student-athlete break a longstanding record,” head coach K.C. Bassett said. “Korynn has worked very hard over her career on her shot and offensive game. Breaking this record is the fruition of a lot of behind-the-scenes dedication to being her best offensively.”

Throughout her career as a Lady Warrior, Clason amassed 1,964 points putting her at fifth in Sterling College’s career scoring list.

“I am very proud of Korynn and all she has accomplished during her basketball career at Sterling. Her basketball legacy has been cemented into the record books and it’s neat to be a small part of that,” Bassett said.

Clason is proud of her accomplishment a fitting way to end her basketball career.

“My focus on this season was to make the most out of it by not taking anything for granted and leaving it all on the floor. I wanted to focus on using my God-given talents to the very best,” Clason said. “This record is special to me because it is a reminder of all the hours I have put into the gym crafting my shot.”

With such a big scorer graduating from the program, Bassett is excited to see how her athletes rise to the occasion.

“Korynn’s offensive output will be hard to replace next season,” Bassett said. “We feel like we have quality players waiting in the wings, ready to step into larger roles that will carry some of the offensive load next year. We are also working hard recruiting student-athletes to hopefully be the next ones to break records in the future.”
