HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Both the Trinity Catholic girls and Sterling came into Friday’s game in Hutchinson looking for their second win of the season, and both teams gave a tremendous effort, but it was Sterling getting just enough to push by the Celtics, 45-44 in overtime.
Sterling had a lead late in regulation, but Trinity’s Mattie Galliher sank her first 3-pointer of the season, sending it to overtime. There, Sterling’s 6-foot, 5-inch forward Lily Gray scored four points, part of her 22-point night.
Sterling’s defense got them into the game after Trinity led 13-8 after the first quarter, holding the Celtics scoreless in the second quarter.
Both teams will return to action next week at Sterling’s midseason tournament.
Sterling boys 65, Trinity Catholic 41 – Sterling broke open a close game in the second half, thanks in part to some hot shooting from Isaac Briar, who finished with six made 3-pointers and 18 points.
Gabe Riffel also had a solid effort for Sterling, scoring 12 points and adding 12 rebounds.
