The Hutchinson High volleyball team split a pair of matches on Tuesday in Haysville.
The Salthawks started the night with a non-league match against Liberal, which the Salthawks won 25-18, 25-14. The Salthawks then lost a tough three-set battle to Campus, 25-23, 20-25, 25-19.
The match split followed a similar story over the weekend at the early-season AVCTL Preseason tournament at the Salthawk Activity Center. Hutchinson started with three straight losses, in straight sets to Kapaun Mount Carmel (25-10, 25-16), before dropping a pair of three-set matches to Eisenhower (25-16, 25-27, 25-21) and Andover Central (23-25, 25-17, 25-15). But the Salthawks finished strong by sweeping Dodge City (25-11, 25-16) and Buhlert (25-23, 25-20).
The Salthawks now stand at 3-4 and will take the weekend off before traveling next Tuesday to Salina South.
Golf – The Salthawks traveled earlier this week to Derby Golf and Country Club, and finished in fifth place in the 10-team event with a 210, just four strokes behind fourth-place Eisenhower.
Ava Burlie led the Salthawks with a 50 at the nine-hole event. Kara Cape and Brynn Hall were right behind with a 52. Lydia Patterson carded a 53, Lily Rodriguez shot a 55, and Jordan Pratt had a 60.
The Salthawks will compete again Tuesday at Salina Municipal.
Boys soccer – The Salthawks started the season with a tough 1-0 loss to Buhler on Tuesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex. The Salthawks possessed the ball well, however, and created several opportunities to score.
The Salthawks will return home on Thursday when they host Eisenhower.
