Salthawk Sports Roundup: Camrynn Harris leads boys track in Newton

The Hutchinson High track and field teams opened the season on Friday in Newton.

For the boys team, Camrynn Harris was the Saltahawks’ only event winner of the meet, finishing first in the 200 meters in a time of 22.65 seconds.

Harris also was second in the 100 (10.9).

The girls team had several third-place finishes. Hurdler Ava Krone was third in both the 100 (17.37) and 300 hurdles (51.57).

Avery Tecknlenburg was third in the 1,600 (6:09.16). KelRre Martinez came in third in long jump (16 feet, 7 ¼ inches).

Soccer – After dropping their season opener at Andover Central, the Salthawks have come back with a pair of wins.

Hutchinson first won the Reno County derby, 3-2, over Buhler. Monday, the Salthawks opened the three-game Titan Classic at Wichita South on Monday beating Wichita Classical 3-0.

Junior Rhyan Galyon scored a pair of goals, one in each half, and sophomore Azul Maciel added one goal.

Swimming – The girls swim team’s home opener at the Hutchinson Family YMCA on Tuesday was postponed due to HVAC issues at the YMCA.

Thursday, the Salthawks opened the season at Salina South and finished fifth with 268 points.

The Saltahwsk won three events, with junior AJ Gooch winning the 200-yard freestyle (2 minutes, 19.73 seconds) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:18.83). 

Gooch was anchored Hutchinson’s 400-yard freestyle relay team that won in a time of 4:14.65. Freshman Alayna Wiggins, and sophomores Mogan Most and Julianna Stivers were also on the team.

Baseball – The Salthawks won their season opener on March 24 against Pratt, 10-2, but since have lost three in a row.

After dropping the second game to Pratt 2-0, Hutch was swept by Great Bend 15-1 and 13-6.

The Salthawks will return to action on Friday at Hobart-Detter Field against Andover.

Softball – The Salthawks opened the season Friday with a pair of losses at Great Bend.

Hutchinson battled in the first game, falling 7-6, but Great Bend dominated the second game, winning 12-0.

Hutch next plays Thursday at Buhler.
