Led by a sixth-place finish from senior Ava Burlie, the Hutchinson High girls team finished in sixth place at the 12-team Salina Invitational on Monday at Salina Municipal.

The Salthawks shot an even 400, edging Newton by one stroke and finishing 15 strokes behind Hays.

Burlie carded an 85, 13-over par. Burlie was the only Salthawk in the top 20 and only one to break 100.

Boys soccer – The Salthawks continued their strong play against a tough schedule on Tuesday by knocking off Goddard-Eisenhower in a 4-3 thriller.

Griffin Galyon scored a hat trick, with two goals in the first half and one in the second half. Hayden Waymire added a goal. Waymire, Lucas Witt and Landon Nusser had assists, with Nusser notching two.

The Salthawks improved to 5-1-1 and will take the rest of the week off before taking on Buhler, Valley Center and Arkansas City next week.

Girls tennis – The Salthawks placed seventh at the Doug Geyer Classic on Tuesday in McPherson. It’s one of the few tournaments to lump all singles players into one division, and all doubles players into one division.

The doubles team of Ayla Booe and Ellie Foos bounced back from an opening-match loss to finish in 10th place. After the loss, the duo won their next two matches, one coming in an 8-7 (2) win over teammates Addison Lewis and Payzlee Regier. Lewis and Regier finished in 11th.

In singles, Rylee Miller came back from two losses to win her final two matches and place 13th. Maggie Kaplan finished in 16th place.

Volleyball – The Salthawks went 2-2 at a tournament on Saturday in Maize. The Salthawks swept Newton and Maize, and dropped a two-set match to Goddard-Eisenhower and a three-set thriller to Wichita Northwest.

Hutchinson is now 8-7 and will head to Great Bend on Thursday to take on Great Bend and Goddard.
