Saint Mary Knocks Off Women’s Basketball Bulldogs

McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The University of Saint Mary Spires shot 48.6 percent from the field and 45.2 percent from the free throw line Saturday (Feb. 17) to upend the McPherson College Bulldogs 93-58 inside the Sport Center.

Keely Barnard paced the Spires with 26 points, while Tanea Sims added 25 points. Alanis Delgado scored 13 points and dished eight assists.

The Bulldogs were held to just 29.1 percent shooting from the field. Madelyn Hankins led the way with 15 points, while Matisyn Moses added 13 points and Gillian Rodgers scored ten points.

USM forced the Bulldogs into 24 turnovers, which resulted in 27 points for the Spires. Saint Mary also scored 47 bench points.

MC held its own in the first quarter, using a 7-0 burst over the final minute to knot the score at 19-19 after ten minutes. But from there, the Spires outscored MC 24-10 in the second frame to lead 43-29 at the break.

It was all Spires after halftime, outscoring the Bulldogs 50-29 in the second half.

The Bulldogs are back in action Wednesday (Feb. 21), traveling to Winfield, Kan. to take on Southwestern College. MC will return to the Sport Center for the final time this season, as they square off against Tabor College on Saturday (Feb. 24) for Senior Night.
