LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Smoky Valley Vikings were back at home on Friday night. Both teams faced tough battles against the Concordia Panthers and in the end, Concordia came away with a sweep on the night.
Girls-Concordia 61, Smoky Valley 43 – The Vikings and Panthers traded baskets early as the game was tied at 12 after one quarter. Concordia’s leading scorer coming into the game, Charlize Cash, was held scoreless in the first quarter, but erupted for 10 of her twelve points in the second. Concordia outscored Smoky Valley 23-8 to take a 35-20 halftime lead. A 15-8 third quarter gave the Panthers a 50-28 lead after three on their way to the 18-point win. Concordia was led by Jaylin Roush with 22 points and Rylie Jessup added 15 to go along with Cash’s 12. Smoky Valley got 19 points from Kat Blanchat, while Kenzley Haxton made four three-pointers and added 13 points. Concordia moved to 1-2, while Smoky Valley is now 0-2.

Boys-Concordia 69, Smoky Valley 29 – In a back and forth game early, Concordia took an 11-6 lead after one quarter. The Panthers led 17-12 in the second quarter and then went on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 14. Leading by 16 at half, Concordia outscored Smoky Valley 25-7 in the third quarter to take a 59-25 lead, finishing with the 40-point win in the end. Peyton Retter got hot for the Panthers in the second quarter, scoring 14 of his 25 points in that frame. Ayden Krier added 11 for Concordia in the win. For the second straight game, Ty Heitschmidt led Smoky Valley with 16 points, which was just one point off of his career high. The Vikings fell to 0-2, while the Panthers are now 3-0 on the season.
