Pair of Victories for Neosho Men’s Basketball

TRENTON, Mo. (GoNeosho.com) – The Neosho County men’s basketball team won two games at the North Central Missouri College Thanksgiving Tournament to improve to 4-6 on the season.

On Friday the Panthers beat Illinois Valley College 55-53.  The Panthers led 26-18 at halftime, and led by as many as 19 in the second half, before hanging on for the 4 point win.  Freshman Champ Powaukee led Neosho County in scoring with 12 points.  Redshirt sophomores Aaron Doria and Michael Doria added 10 points and 8 points for the Panthers.  The leading the stat sheet for rebounds in the game for the Panthers were Aaron Doria with 12 rebounds and freshman Adyn Prophete with 9 rebounds.  Sophomore Damian Jones had 4 assists to lead Neosho County.

On Saturday Neosho County beat Spoon River College 73-66 in overtime.  Michael Doria made 2 free throws with 2.9 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime. Champ Powaukee again led the Panthers in scoring with 19 points.  Michael Doria also scored in double figures with 12 points, and freshman Justin van Rooijen added 9 points for the Panthers.  Aaron Doria led Neosho County with 8 rebounds, and Champ Pewaukee added 6 rebounds.  Justin van Rooijen had 4 assists to lead the Panthers, with Champ Powaukee adding 3 assists.

Neosho County resumes play with a home game on Tuesday against Friends University.
