STERLING, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — After suffering their home loss last Friday, the Bulldogs rebounded in a major way with a victory against the Sterling University Warriors on Wednesday (Oct 2).

The two teams were tied at four through the first eight rally points when the Bulldogs began to pull away by scoring seven of the next 10 rally points to take an 11-7 lead. This was only the first major run MC made in the set as the Bulldogs scored eight of the next 10, six of those points consecutively, and rode the momentum to a 25-14 set win.

McPherson continued to roll on in set two, jumping out to a 13-7 lead to force the Warriors to call a timeout. The break in the action did not stop the Bulldogs as six of the next rally points went to MC to extend the lead to 19-9. Sterling went on a small run, but it was nowhere near enough to change the outcome of the set as the Bulldogs won it, 25-15 and secured a 2-0 match lead.

Despite the struggles in the first two sets, the Warriors refused to go down without a fight, getting off to an 8-5 lead early in the set. McPherson came right back to tie up the set at 10 to start a see-saw effect as both teams began trading rally points. Sterling called for a timeout after the Bulldogs took a 22-19 lead to try and slow down the visitors, but MC stayed strong to win the set 25-22 and secured the sweep.

Brooke McHale’s 11 kills in the match were good enough for the team lead. Raegan Murphy once again shined as the setter, recording 25 of the team’s 43 assists.

McPherson returns to the SportCenter for their next matchup on Saturday (Oct 5) to face off against Friends University. The game is set for a 7:00 p.m. start.
